Trained as a photographer and musician, his work explores the visual expression of emotion through the use of photographic imagery.

Art historian and critic Elizabeth Ferrer brings attention to an important characteristic of his work:
“Many photographers working with the formats of constructed imagery or photomontage do so with a keen sense of intentionality, as a means of conveying a specific statement or idea. Herrera, in contrast, relies greatly on intuition and emotion, more interested in the possibility of locating meaning outside the arenas of pure intellect and reason.” read more...

Herrera was the recipient of an Artist Residency at the de Young Museum in San Francisco, California in 2006. His work was selected by SF Camerawork, the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel and Photoalliance for their print collector’s programs.

He is currently working on an installation that will be part of the Semana de Música Religiosa (Week of Religious Music) one of the oldest festivals on the Iberian Peninsula, to be celebrated in Cuenca, Spain in the Spring 2010. The project is named El Silencio como punto de partida (Silence as point of departure) and includes projected still photographs, video and an aural landscape. The venue where the installation will take place is the nave of what used to be a church dating from the 1700's; read preview here.
